new digs?

I have several posts that I want to post.  However, I am in a fork in the road.  I am trying to decide what is best- switching to a blog hosted on my website, www.capellakincheloe.com, switching to wordpress, changing the domain of a curated lifestyle to a subdomain of capellakincheloe.com or leaving everything as is.  There are pros and cons to each solution, mainly involving complicated SEO and links and other things I don't quite understand.  Because of this crossroads, I am a bit paralyzed.

Any advice or thoughts?

  1. Hi, Capella, I've had the same questions. I am of the opinion it is best to blog from a website, keeps things simple for everyone, however my website was hacked once, and my blogger has never been hacked. I've been hesitant. But I am seriously considering it! Best of luck with your decision!

  3. Hi Capella,

I actually do SEO optimization for a living and thought I would chime in with some info...

If you are trying to build out your brand/business and have your blog content closely related to it, then it would be best to bring your blog under your website's root domain. You can 301 redirect your old blog URL to the new one on your website, and all of the SEO credibility will be transferred with it. You have to keep that blog live although no one will stay there because of the redirect, and it must be a 301 redirect and not a 302.

The benefit to having your blog on your brand's root domain is that you have additional opportunities to appear within organic search results because of the high credibility of the website (no dilution across multiple URLS).I also recommend creating the blog as a subfolder of the root URL instead of a subdomain - search engines like them better.

If you would like your brand/business and your blog to be very separate services, than a different URL will fit the bill.

I hope this makes sense and good luck!
