Thought I would share some photos of the kitchen demo with you.
See those tiles on the wall? Well they wouldn't come off.
So we had to take all the drywall out. Which was good because there was some major water damage under the window from an apparent sink leak some time ago. Fixed now.
Putting up mold-resistant drywall. There used to be a wall separating the family room from kitchen- not anymore. I will have an island installed and the dropped ceiling provides a little visual separation.
Here is the wall that hid the awful kitchen from the family room - since we're going to have an awesome kitchen it can be completely open and people can hang out with me while I cook.
Still can see that ceiling finish change - that will need to be fixed soon. Painting ceilings sucks, which is probably why they stopped as soon as they could.
Want to see the before? Thought so.
Same view as above
Grout nightmares.
Doing a demo is like rewinding history - you could see the cabinet used to be an awful wood finish before being painted. We found pieces of gold shag carpet under the bookshelf supports, you could see that the stove had been moved 16" to the right and I will be moving it another 16" to the right. The walls used to be yellow - the yucky yellow that was so popular in 80s kitchens. I love the stories that homes can tell without saying a word.
