quirky

Last week someone asked if I would call myself a "nonconformist", I told him "No, I just like to do things my way."  So I have been thinking that the best designs are always those that have something that is a little off- a perfect imperfection, a "mistake", an element that doesn't quite fit.  Its usually the element that my client a hard time with, the one that my IDESIGN clients forgo altogether (I conjure the design, they are responsible for execution), but it is usually the element that makes you smile when you come home.  It shows your home is decorated your way.

A note on Pinterest: I searched high & low on the web for the original source of this image. Simply citing Pinterest is not a accurate or proper way to give images credit.  So if anyone knows the original source of this beautiful home and quirky green door, please fill me in.

Please enter my GIVEAWAY, it ends tomorrow.

Chic Danish Loot- Giveaway!

I admit, its really hard to see my house numbers from the street.  I tell people to look for the USC flag (Fight On!) to find it.  With one of these house number signs you will make it easy for your guests to find your home.  It also makes a great housewarming present.  Ramsign is donating one of their house number porcelain enamel signs to a reader of A Curated Lifestyle.  (Do you think it is because my great-grandmother was a Dane?)  Will it be you?  You can learn all about the process, the history and how they make these hearty Danish signs here.

Then they hand-make it for you like this (up to 5 numbers) :

And you can put it on your house like this:

I personally like the round Engelhardt House Number

So how do you win one of these head-turners for yourself?

Entry #1: Follow this Blog, by clicking on Join this site under "Followers" on right side bar.  Leave a comment below letting me know you follow A Curated Lifestyle.

Entry #2 & #3: Want more entries? You will get one additional entry each if you tweet or put a post on Facebook about the giveaway linking them here.  Then leave a separate comment below (for each post) letting me know what you've done!

Entry #4: Wow, you still want more?  You can sign up for my newsletter (top right side bar) and leave a comment for that too.  But thats it.  If you want it that bad, go buy one at www.ramsign.com.

Giveaway is Closed

***UPDATE***
Terry is the winner of Chic Danish Loot giveaway.  If you are in the Atlanta design arena you know who Terry is!  So congratulations Terry and I am sure that you will have no problems deciding which house sign to make your own.

best of atlanta: special edition

While I am working on a master bathroom remodel in Arizona, instead of my usual craigslist finds, I wanted to give you a special edition of the Best of, so here are my tips to successful postings.  Also check out my blog post for HGTV on Craigslist 101.

1. Keep titles simple, a long title with superfluous information is not easy to skim.  Potential buyers will see the first word first (duh) so make it easy for them to find what they are looking for.
Good examples:
Bad examples:

2. DO NOT USE CAPITALS, JUST LIKE IN EMAILS, IT IS ANNOYING.

3. Always put an image, I am not driving anywhere unless I have an idea of what I am getting.

4. Use spell check- your item will not be found if it is misspelled.  A dinning table does not exist, but someone may be interested in your dining table

I thought that this may be a accidental misspelling, but no, this poster used "tabel" three times!  But somehow managed to correctly spell "inquiries" & "immediately".  Wow.

5. Be descriptive, include dimensions, materials, potential uses, condition and
6. Do not tell me something is "beautiful" "very nice" "awesome"
what is this made of?  how big is it?  has it been in your garage for 10 years or is it relatively new?

Since I will be heading on a trip of a lifetime, I need some guest bloggers!  If you are interested please please please email me at capella {at} capellakincheloe {dot} com

diy bench

I needed additional seating in front of my fireplace and when I saw the $10 tryta bench from ikea, I knew the size would be perfect.  So with some materials I had left over I whipped up this convenient bench that can easily be pulled around when company visits.

best of atlanta craigslist edition 45

Looks like if you have the right place for it or want to design a room around it, you could probably get away with not recovering it.

I think there is nothing cuter than a midcentury dresser.

Some gold paint and a animal print fabric takes these from cottage to classy.

Not sure about the yellow legs, but her shape is there.

This could work in any room of the house.

Remember the granite & independent thinking post I did back in March?  It was one of my most commented-on posts here at ACL.  I thought it may be about time to show you some alternate options to the almighty granite.
